What is Stress Relief?

Stress relief is a controlled heat-treatment process used to reduce internal stresses created during machining, grinding, welding, or forming operations. These internal stresses, if left untreated, can lead to distortion, cracking, or dimensional changes during subsequent processing or in-service use.

At Aero-Chrome, stress relief services are performed to stabilize components prior to final machining, grinding, inspection, or finishing. The process gently heats parts to a specified temperature below their transformation point and cools them in a controlled manner, relieving stress without altering material hardness or mechanical properties.

With over 40 years of experience and NADCAP & FAA/EASA-approved operations, Aero-Chrome provides stress relief services that support tight tolerances and long-term component reliability.

Our Stress Relief Process

1. Inspection & Process Review

Parts are evaluated to determine material type, stress condition, and appropriate stress relief parameters.

2. Controlled Heat Treatment

Components are heated to a specified temperature and held for a controlled duration to allow internal stresses to relax without affecting material properties.

3. Controlled Cooling

Parts are cooled at a regulated rate to prevent the reintroduction of stress or distortion.

4. Final Inspection & Documentation

Post-process inspection and documentation are completed to support traceability and quality assurance requirements.
